Diabetes Digestive Protocol |
Diabetes is a disease of digestive and metabolic inefficiency. For example, in diabetes it is difficult to gain muscle and lean tissue mass. One big reason, diabetics degrade the branched chain amino acids 3-5 times more rapid then non-diabetics (Harpers Biochemistry 25th edition page 733). The branched chain amino acids form a major part of muscle tissue. The loss of muscle and the high rate of degradation of the branched chain amino acids can involve inefficient digestion as well as metabolism disorders.
If you can improve protein digestion, then this will also improve utilization of the proteins at the cell level. This will help improve the metabolism of proteins.
1. You can consider supplementing the BACCA; the branched chain amino acids that help build muscle tissue. The BACCA are the amino acids valine, isoleucine, and leucine. Usually 2 grams or more are needed daily to see results. Exercise also enhances the effects of BACCA supplementation. A diabetic might supplement 1 gram or more at bedtime, since this is when repair and growth of most body tissues takes place.
2. Consider supplementing ion-exchange whey protein concentrate. This is a predigested protein product that you make a protein shake. It is easy on digestion, and easily gets into the bloodstream where it can travel to the cells. Diabetics need a lot of protein to help make up for their inefficiency at creating protein tissues. However, too much protein can be toxic to the kidneys, a reason that most diabetics are restricted in how much protein they should consume. Whey concentrate does not have the toxic byproducts of other protein foods such as meat and diary. Therefore large amounts of whey can be handled in the body without forming a lot of toxic by products. A diabetic can consider 1-2 whey shakes, 50 grams of protein at a time. The body can handle about 50 grams of whey at one time and still utilize it. It may take a little time to build up to 50 grams at one time. It may be wise to start out at 20-30 grams at a time.
3. Consider supplementing 2-4 digestive enzyme capsules right after a meal, and then again 45 minutes after a meal. The enzymes help digest protein.
4. Consider 1/8th teaspoon to 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda mixed in a glass of water 20 minutes after a meal. This will help neutralize stomach acid, which will allow proper digestion of protein.
Good luck.
Note – In order for these anti-aging ideas to be successful, you must use supplements of the highest quality. Dr. Bob often said, "almost all supplement companies produce poor quality." You can consider the product page of this web site. Almost all the products met Dr. Bob’s approval. Since he passed away we have attempted to keep the same high standards.
