Aging and Nutritional Deficiencies |
According to Dr. Bob, as you age, natural functions in your body decline. This
often leads to loss of efficiency in your body's absorption of nutrients, which
in turn can create nutritional deficiencies that may lead to breakdowns in the
body, aging, and ultimately death.
A healthy person usually functions more efficiently and uses his or her
nutritional intake more efficiently than aging or diseased people, or anyone
else suffering from nutritional deficiencies. Therefore, dosages meant to help
deficiencies may be much more substantial than dosages for healthy individuals.
For this reason, a normal multivitamin and mineral may not be sufficient. Dr.
Bob believed that the best multivitamin and mineral supplement to help
deficiencies was the brand Maxilife multivitamin and mineral.
According to Harrison's Principles of Internal Medicine, 10th edition,
"Under-nutrition is a common contribution to morbidity and mortality rates
in hospitals. As a peculiar discrepancy, however, under-nutrition rarely appears
on charts in the list of diagnoses or in the progress notes. Consequently,
quantitative tests of nutritional status are rare in the initial clinical work
up, and the progress of the nutritional state is rarely monitored regularly
during the course of illness. As a result, under-nutrition tends to be
recognized late, when it is severe and difficult to treat." Similarly, Dr.
Bob stated that "under-nutrition does not tend to be recognized at all. A
person may go into the hospital healthy and come out unhealthy. Many times the
reason for this are nutritional deficiencies of protein, minerals and vitamins
that occurred during the hospital stay."
The idea that doctors and nurses rarely examine a patient's nutritional status
is quite disturbing. Many reputable medical books state that monitoring the
nutritional status of an individual during a diseased state is the doctor's job,
yet many of these very same books say that a majority of physicians neglect this
point. Dr. Bob often said that neglecting the nutritional status of a patient
during a diseased state often led to many new illnesses. For all of these
reasons, the patient must be responsible for his or her own nutritional status.
Doctors are taught to examine the nutritional status of patients, yet according
to medical books and journals, a majority of doctors neglect this factor. Just
like the legend of the hydra, some doctors are essentially cutting off one head,
and two more grow back to replace the one lost head. Doctors may be treating the
most serious problem of the patient, yet nutritional deficiencies can lead to
many additional problems.
It is essential that you be aware that nutritional supplementation may be
necessary as you grow older, or when conditions such as disease occur. Also,
keep in mind that dosages for deficiencies may be higher during periods of
disease or for the elderly. Be sure to speak to a doctor who understands this.
Since many doctors fail to examine nutritional needs during their day-to-day
practice, they likely may not know what the correct and healthy dosages for
deficiencies may be. This fact can be devastating to a person's health. Seek out
the advice of a qualified doctor who is knowledgeable about nutritional health,
such as an orthomolecular doctor. Dr. Bob used orthomolecular medicine as a
basis for his healing methods, which involve non-toxic and natural substances
mainly from herbs, vitamins, and mineral.
One doctor in particular who knows a great deal about nutritional health is Dr.
Michael Colgan of the Colgan's Institute. Refer to Dr. Colgan's book Your
Personal Vitamin Profile to help you examine your personal vitamin and mineral
requirements, which can be customized to individual traits and habits such as
height, weight, age, or lifestyle issues.
Dr. Bob said "go with the flow and contribute to the music of the
motion." Be aware of nutritional deficiencies. "Take care of things
while they are still minor before they become a bigger problem. Put the brakes
on now." Understanding the value of nutritional health, in particular
nutritional deficiencies, is vital to your health. Dr. Bob said that nutritional
health "is the way to renew and regulate your vital energy. This creates
order and balance in the body. Discover these new ways of doing things. This
leads to security and safety in knowing you are doing the right things for your
health."
Note – In order for these anti-aging ideas to be successful, you must use
supplements of the highest quality. Dr. Bob often said, "almost all
supplement companies produce poor quality." You can consider the product
page of this web site. Almost all the products met Dr. Bob’s approval.
Since he passed away we have attempted to keep the same high standards.
