Asthma |
Asthma is a disease that results in obstruction of
the airways. During an asthma
attack, spasms in the muscles around the bronchi (small airways in the lungs)
constrict, impeding the passage of air. The
bronchial tubes swell and become plugged with mucus.
This inflammation irritates the airways, leading to further sensitivity.
This can result in more frequent attacks and more severe symptoms.
Dr. Bob had several recommendations for people who
had asthma. Dr. Bob was a M.D.
internal medicine, orthomolecular doctor, M.D. psychiatrist, chiropractor, and
healer 65 years. He was a diabetic
who lived to 108 years with only 1 side effect 2 years before he passed away.
He advised to make sure your air, water, and food
were as pure as possible. Dr. Bob said improving air, water, and food decreases
stress to the body and often decreasing these kinds of stresses could help
people with asthma. You can read
about additional methods that can decrease stress in conditions like asthma in
the article, “Dr. Bob’s Method for Allergies & Toxic Reactions,” in
this section (Allergies & Toxic Reactions).
Dr. Bob was an orthomolecular doctor.
He said this is a system of medicine practiced by medical M.D. doctors.
It is a method using natural substances that are non-toxic and safe in a wide
range of dose. Most of the substances used are herbs, minerals/vitamins.
The following are Dr. Bob's orthomolecular ideas to help the problems of
asthma.
The following doses are based on a 180-pound man and
should be adjusted according to your weight, age, physical health, and other
health criteria. Consult with an
orthomolecular doctor or nutritional specialist. The following are only guidelines. Consider supplementing 15 minutes before meals.
Food can interfere with absorption of supplements.
Supplementing a little before meals may give time for the supplements to
be absorbed before food may interfere.
A.
At the first sign of an asthmatic attack, Dr. Bob advised you take a
teaspoon to a tablespoon of baking soda mixed in distilled water. The baking soda can help alkaline the body for a short time.
This can help decrease the stress and symptoms of asthma.
B.
Dr. Bob recommended zinc lozenges at the beginning of an asthmatic
attack. He said the lozenges
penetrated the blood stream rapidly. Dr.
Bob said zinc lozenges taken at the beginning signs of an asthmatic attack could
decrease the stress and symptoms of asthma.
Dr. Bob’s orthomolecular methods to help decrease
the stress of asthma:
1.
Dr. Bob advised 3-6 grams total daily of buffered vitamin C powder, in
divided doses. Vitamin C decreases
stress in the body and asthma usually loads the body with stress.
2.
Dr. Bob advised 1 baby aspirin every other day.
He said this helps decrease symptoms from asthma.
The small dose of aspirin helps minimize the toxic effects that large
doses of aspirin can produce. Dr.
Bob said using aspirin every other day made it more effective.
3.
Dr Bob recommended Maxilife multivitamin and mineral powder.
Nutritional protocols need cofactors.
An excellent multi can provide cofactors needed.
4.
Dr. Bob advised Udo's oil from Flora.
Udo's oil is a blend of omega 3 and omega 6 oils and also contains
necessary cofactors. Dr. Bob said
it had the right balance and omega oils. Proper
balance of omega oils can help restore normal function to tissue and decrease
inflammation. Dr. Bob advised fatty
acid supplements that were approximately 2:1 ratio omega 3 to omega 6.
Science has not yet determined the proper omega ratios.
He also said you can consider equal amounts of pumpkinseed-flax or
borage-flax to provide essential fatty acids.
5.
We advise TMG crystals. TMG
purifies the blood from improper metabolized (metabolism – the proper
handling, processing, and utilization of nutrients) protein such as homocysteine.
Improperly metabolized food can lead to allergy type symptoms that can increase
stress for people with asthma. 50-150
mg each meal is considered a normal daily dose.
6.
Dr. Bob advised 20 grams of soy powder for children and 40 grams for
adults daily. Soy powder boosts
immunity, aids metabolism, improves thyroid, and other positive aspects that Dr.
Bob found helped people with asthma.
7.
Dr. Bob advised 250 mg each day of N-acetyl-cysteine (NAC).
NAC is a supplement that Dr. Bob found could reduce mucus and this can be
helpful in asthma. Dr. Bob also said do not exceed this dosage in asthma.
If this does not help mucous problem read the article, “Over-Production
of Mucous”. You can consider
combining TMG, NAC and OKG. The TMG can help neutralize homocysteine.
The OKG can help scavenge ammonia. Ammonia
can be an amino acid byproduct. This
can allow for higher doses of NAC to help decrease mucous.
See a nutritional expert about proper NAC, OKG and TMG doses.
8.
Dr. Bob advised you test your calcium, magnesium, potassium, sodium
levels, phosphorus and Co2. These
minerals are greatly involved in maintaining cellular balance.
9.
Dr. Bob advised 45 mg of zinc picolinate daily in divided doses.
Dr. Bob explained zinc is useful as an energizer and important in
immunity and this can be helpful for asthma.
Dr. Bob found electrical imbalances in some people
with asthma. He considered this a problem when the asthmatic had many
uncontrollable thoughts. In the
cases where asthma and many psychological problems were present he said Dilantin,
a prescribed drug, could help. Dr.
Bob said Dilantin can often correct inappropriate electrical activity and
electrical imbalance in an individual. Read
more about Dilantin on this web site in an article titled, "Overlooked Cure
for Compulsive Thinking."
Dr. Bob also found that many times asthma like
symptoms could result from a hole in the septum, which could be caused by a tear
or slipping of the cartilage. Doctors
are often unaware of this possibility. In some cases, x-rays should be taken to determine if this
condition exists. Surgery or taking
orthomolecular substances that build cartilage can often remedy this problem and
eliminate a lifetime difficulty.
In conclusion, asthma is a difficult condition to
treat. Dr. Bob's ideas in helping
to improve the conditions of asthma were to decrease stress.
Asthma usually has many factors involved with asthmatic attacks.
Therefore there is usually no magic bullet cure. Dr. Bob's approach was
to decrease overall stress and this would give the immune and detox systems
greater energy and ability to fight against the inflammation, mucous, feelings
of constriction, and other conditions of asthma.
Dr. Bob often said, "good luck and may heaven's blessings be
yours."
Note
– In order for these nutritional ideas to be successful, you must use
supplements of the highest quality. Dr. Bob often said, “almost all supplement
companies produce poor quality.” You
can consider the
product
page of
this web site. All the products met Dr. Bob’s approval.
Since he passed away we have attempted to keep the same high standards on
new products.
Dr.
Bob was fond of saying, “good luck and may heaven’s blessings be yours.”
