Brain Dehydration

Dr. Bob Rhondell Gibson was a M.D. internal medicine, orthomolecular doctor, M.D. psychiatrist, chiropractor, and healer for 65 years.  He was a diabetic who lived to 108 years with only 1 side effect 2 years before he passed away.  Dr. Bob practiced a system of medicine called orthomolecular medicine.  It is a system of medicine that uses mainly natural substances that are non-toxic and safe in wide range of doses.  It uses mainly herbs and minerals/vitamins.

Many mental conditions and diseases are linked to brain dehydration.  Dehydration is a condition of improper water volume and/or imbalance among minerals in the bloodstream and cells.  When cells are properly hydrated and minerals are balanced, then nutrients pass more efficiently into cells and wastes move out more efficiently.  When dehydration occurs, this decreases the efficiency of transport into and out of cells.  This can lead to decline in functioning in brain cells.  The loss of function can lead to change in structure, which can lead to deterioration, degeneration, and death.

The following are the ideas of Dr. Bob regarding brain dehydration:

  1. Consider 2 grams a day of glutamine for conditions of acidosis.  Glutamine supplementation can help correct acidosis (1).  In some diseases glutamine should not be used at all.  Therefore check with your doctor before using glutamine.  Acidosis is a condition of dehydration where acid balance is improper.  This can lead to poor functioning of transport, enzyme reactions, and many other conditions that can lead to decline in functioning of the cells.

  1. Inositol and zinc supplementation together.  Inositol is an important organic solute, “which does not interfere with protein function as their concentration rises.”(2)  Inositol can help balance electrical charges and functioning in brain cells.  Dr. Bob recommended ½ teaspoon with 15 mg of zinc when you are in acidosis.

  1. Dr Bob recommended omega 3 fish oils.  Essential fatty acids improve cell membrane functioning, helping to improve cellular transport.

  1. Dr. Bob recommended magnesium and potassium supplements together.  He recommended 500 mg of magnesium daily and 200-500 mg of potassium daily, in divided doses taken together.  Magnesium and potassium are vital to cellular balance and often in dehydration they are depleted.

  1. Dr. Bob recommended nutrients that can improve absorption of supplements and nutrients.  Red grapefruit juice (a tiny amount) and pepper extract are two that seem to increase the absorption of nutrients.  We handle the supplement bioprene on the product page of this website.  It is a pepper extract that can make many supplements work better.

  1. Eliminate table salt as much as possible.  Salt alters the cellular balance and can disrupt cell functioning.  There is plenty of salt added to foods so most people do not need to add additional salt.

  1. Dr. Bob advised the supplement TMG to improve membrane potential

  1. D. .Bob advised the supplement alpha lipoic acid to improve membrane potential.  We recommend sustained release alpha lipoic acid, which can be found on the product page of this website.

  1. You can use litmus paper to measure urine pH.  Urine pH is an inverse marker of extracellular pH.(3)  Urine pH, within a 0.5 error, can provide information on plasma pH.  You can measure yourself daily to see if you are likely in acidosis using litmus paper.  Acidosis scores would be likely 5.5, 5.0 and 4.5 measuring urine pH.  You can find litmus paper on the product page of this website.

NOTE – In order for these nutritional ideas to be successful, you must use supplements of the highest quality. Dr. Bob often said, “Almost all supplement companies produce poor quality.”  You can consider the product page of this web site. Almost all the products met Dr. Bob’s approval.  Since he passed away we have attempted to keep the same high standards.
