Dr. Bob was a MD internal medicine, orthomolecular doctor, MD psychiatrist, chiropractor, and healer 65 years.  He was a diabetic who lived to 108 years with only 1 side effect 2 years before he passed away.  Dr. Bob practiced a system of medicine called orthomolecular medicine.  It is a system of medicine that uses mainly natural substances that are non-toxic and safe in wide range of doses.  It uses mainly herbs and minerals/vitamins.

Dr. Bob described the area about two inches above the belly button as the center for physical energy in the body.  The liver, pancreas, and adrenals are located around this point.  These organs supply much of the energy of the body.  Dr. Bob advised that deep breathing focused to a point two inches above the belly button would stimulate the organs at this area.  This would stimulate the production of chemicals in the body that would enhance energy production.

Dr. Bob described two ideas to help promote enhanced energy by the method of breathing.  First he advised to breath in and out through the nose whenever possible.  He said when you breath in and out through the nose you are better able to direct the breath to the point two inches above the bellybutton.  A second idea was to try and move your diaphragm at the point two inches above the belly button to stimulate the organs located at that area.

One aspect of breathing in and out through the nose is you will find you have to breathe in deeply.  The breath will not be rapid, but hard and deep.  Aside from this type of breathing helping to push the diaphragm hard against the area two inches above the bellybutton, you will find you are breathing more regular and steady throughout exercise.  When you breathe rapidly and fast, you are creating more rapid use of oxygen leading to the stress of oxidative processes.  Oxidative processes are the by product of breathing and the oxidative processes are stressful to the body because the body needs to detox them.  Therefore a more steady and deep breathing will help the body better control oxidative processes and the detox of them.  This should help improve exercise performance.

Also steady and deep breathing can help create a slower and stronger heart rhythm as well as a steady and slower brain rhythm.  This will have a calming effect on the body, which can last after the workout.  Thus deep, hard, and steady breathing can help reduce stress long after a workout.

In conclusion, when you are working hard in the gym and you are straining at an exercise, focus deep and hard breathing on the point two inches above the belly button and feel the diaphragm pressing hard at that point.  This can help create a surge of energy that will help you improve your performance for the rest of the workout.  Dr. Bob often said, Good luck and may heaven's blessings be yours."

Note – many patterns of breathing, such as long inhales and short exhales, or short inhales and long exhales, or rapid and shallow breathing, or holding your breath and other types of irregular breathing patterns might be considered less than optimal breathing methods.  Less than optimal breathing methods can result in many negative effects on the body, such as decreased oxygen to tissues, muscle fatigue, increased acidosis, and many other negative effects.  Focus your attention on breathing properly; it is vital to maximize your workouts and your daily life.  In the book Breathe Well, Be Well by Robert Fried, it is recommended to keep your inhale and exhale as even as possible.  Your inhale and exhale should be about equal.  This may seem hard to do in a workout.  Of course, as you increase the intensity of exercise, your inhale and exhale will change to adapt to the stress.  Focus on using your diaphragm for the inhale and your stomach muscles for the exhale.  Go slowly, many people attempting new breathing habits end up hyperventilating.  There are other important features in proper breathing that can be found in the book Breathe Well, Be Well.

Note – In order for these anti-aging ideas to be successful, you must use supplements of the highest quality. Dr. Bob often said, "almost all supplement companies produce poor quality." You can consider the product page of this web site. Almost all the products met Dr. Bob’s approval. Since he passed away we have attempted to keep the same high standards.
