Cancer & Melatonin |
Melatonin is the hormone secreted by the pineal gland that helps to control sleep cycles. Melatonin is also an extremely powerful antioxidant and helps prevent free-radical damage from fatty acids, (which is a primary cause of brain aging). Studies also indicate that melatonin boosts immune activity and that it can help prevent a wide range of illnesses, including cancer.
In a recent study, the role of melatonin and its effect on the immune system was investigated, through its control of the release of cytokines (part of your immune system). The study was carried out on 31 cancer patients. They had solid tumors and had failed to respond to chemotherapy and radiotherapy. For three months they were given melatonin. Thirty-nine percent of patients had no further growth of either the primary or secondary tumors! The researchers concluded that the pineal gland, and melatonin in particular, modulate immune function in cancer patients by activating the cytokines system which then exerts growth-inhibitory properties over a large range of tumor cell types.
In other words, when chemotherapy and radiotherapy had failed, meaning there was probably little hope given after that, melatonin stopped cancer in thirty-nine percent of the patients! According to this study melatonin can stop cancer or cure it and in this study was effective thirty-nine percent of the time. Furthermore, the cancer patients in this study were unable to receive help by conventional therapy and melatonin was able to aid many of them.
Therefore it would seem like an excellent idea for anyone over 35 years to start supplementing melatonin to prevent cancer.
Dr. Bob was a MD internal medicine, orthomolecular doctor, MD psychiatrist, chiropractor, and healer 65 years. He was a diabetic who lived to 108 years with only 1 side effect 2 years before he passed away.
Dr. Bob advised 1-3 mg of melatonin six nights out of every seven at bedtime, after the age of 35 years. This supplementation is to raise your melatonin levels back to youthful levels. There are many reasons given in this article to supplement melatonin. Remember one of them is to stop cancer and another reason is to possibly prevent it. If you already have cancer then speak to your doctor and ask him what dose he recommends. You can refer him to "Neri B, et al. Melatonin as biological response modifier in cancer patients. Anticancer Res, 1998; 18: 1329-1332. This reference and information came from the Colgan Chronicles.
Note In order for these anti-aging ideas to be successful, you must use supplements of the highest quality. Dr. Bob often said, "almost all supplement companies produce poor quality." You can consider the
