Heroin addicts should consider calcium/magnesium supplements. The reason is repeated heroin use results in imbalances in the nervous system. Often heroin use results in nerve velocity slowing down, which is why heroin addicts often feel sluggish. Calcium/magnesium are two vital minerals that are involved in nerve conduction. The ratio of calcium to magnesium is usually about two parts calcium to one part magnesium.

Dr. Bob is mentioned on this web site many times. . He was a M.D. internal medicine, orthomolecular doctor, M.D. psychiatrist, chiropractor, and healer 65 years. He started treating addicts in the 1930’s and continued to treat them into the 1990’s.

Dr. Bob recommended 1000 mg calcium and 500 mg magnesium supplemented daily for heroin addicts. He advised most of the supplementation in the evening, close to the time of the calcium cycles in the body, and a smaller amount of the supplementation in the morning and afternoon. There are many different calcium supplements, some more potent than others. Dr. Bob usually advised only two brands of vitamins. He often advised Twin Labs or Jarrow because he felt they used pharmaceutical grade or top quality grades in many of their products. There are many grades of vitamins and you usually get the value you pay for them.

Dr. Bob also advised taking Maxilife multivitamin and mineral with other supplements. A multi supplies cofactors that are needed to help calcium and magnesium in aiding nerve conduction and other nerve regeneration. Additionally, Dr. Bob advised 100 mg of vitamin B6 in the AM and PM. Vitamin B6 is a cofactor of magnesium. Check out the heroin section of this web site for other ideas on nerve and brain regeneration for heroin addicts. Dr. Bob often said, "good luck and may heaven’s blessings be yours."

I. Dr. Bob advised the following to improve nerve velocity using calcium/magnesium:

  1. Use 1000 mg calcium each day mainly in the evening. Do not drink milk or eat chocolate near the time of calcium supplements.
  2. Use 500 mg of magnesium each day. Use magnesium at the same time as calcium. The ratio should be 2 parts calcium to 1 part magnesium. Dr. Bob often advised combining magnesium and calcium in a buffered vitamin C powder. On the product page we handle TLC buffered ascorbic C, a magnesium-calcium-buffered vitamin C blend, which we believe fits Dr. Bob’s criteria.
  3. Use Maxilife multivitamin and mineral.
  4. Use 100 mg of vitamin B6 in the AM and PM.
  5. Use ½ teaspoon in AM and PM of inositol powder. Dr. Bob found inositol powder helps nerves work properly.

II. Dr. Bob advised the following to improve nerve velocity using acetyl-L-carnitine:

  1. Use 1-2 grams of acetyl-L-carnitine in the AM and PM. Dr. Bob said acetyl-L-carnitine improves many aspects of nerves and is an important nutritional brain/nerve supplement. The older and heavier you are, Dr. Bob advised up to 2 grams. Dr. Bob advised the ALC dose depends on age, weight, and individual tolerance. He recommended you consult a nutritional specialist.
  2. Use ½ teaspoon in AM and PM inositol powder. (Inositol is included in # I. If you end up doing both I. and II, at the same time, use ½ teaspoon of inositol in the AM and PM total for each day.)
  3. Use 50-150 mg of TMG in the AM and PM. TMG purifies the blood. Improving circulation can benefit nerves.
  4. Use 1 B50 three times a day.
  5. Use ½ gram to 1 gram of vitamin B5 in divided doses each day.
  6. Dr. Bob said to combine I and II. Often, due to expense, this was not possible, so Dr. Bob devised two separate nutritional methods to correct sluggish nerve velocity.

Note – In order for these anti-aging ideas to be successful, you must use supplements of the highest quality. Dr. Bob often said, "almost all supplement companies produce poor quality." You can consider the product page of this web site. Almost all the products met Dr. Bob’s approval. Since he passed away we have attempted to keep the same high standards.
