Trauma

Dr. Bob is mentioned many times on this web site. He was a MD internal medicine, orthomolecular doctor, MD psychiatrist, chiropractor, and healer 65 years. He was a diabetic who lived to 108 years with only 1 side effect 2 years before he passed away.

Sometimes trauma occurs and a person must spend time recuperating. During the recuperation time the body is dealing with the stress from the trauma. Some of these stresses are healing damaged tissue, disposing of toxic waste, disposing of dead cells, increasing nutrients to the area of damage, increasing immune system activation, and many other stresses to the body.

Dr. Bob stated that increasing antioxidant supplementation, increasing nutrient supplementation, eating better nutrition, and making sure to make lifestyle changes such as exercise and rest to improve the rate of recovery were important ideas that could be used during recuperation to aid healing.

Dr. Bob advised an optimal antioxidant program. Animal studies have shown large increases in life span using optimal amounts of antioxidants. Antioxidants are substances that detox, repair, and heal the body. Science has not yet determined the most optimal antioxidants and the doses needed. However, from a chemistry point of view the body works in pathways. The main pathways are called optimal pathways and the secondary pathways are sometimes called survival pathways. The survival pathways are less efficient, more pro-inflammatory, create more free radicals, and so on versus optimal pathways. This is why the idea of optimal pathways is more vital than simply bombarding your body with antioxidants. If your choices and doses of antioxidants do not create pathways that are optimal than you can lose a great deal of benefit and even be detrimental to the body. Dr. Bob, based on his observations and studies, considered several antioxidants at certain optimal, dose levels vital to opening up optimal pathways. The following antioxidants and doses were Dr. Bob's ideas based on observations spanning approximately 4 decades, from the 1960's to the 1990's. If you choose to use any of these supplements and the doses this is your choice, since there is yet no scientific evidence to show that these are the appropriate choices to open optimal pathways.

Dr. Bob's antioxidant program:

1. Dr. Bob advised 250 mg N-acetyl cysteine (NAC) daily.
2. Dr. Bob advised 2-5 grams of buffered vitamin C powder daily.
3. Dr. Bob advised 600 I.U. of dry vitamin E daily. If you use blood thinners check this out with your doctor before beginning vitamin E.
4. Dr. Bob advised 400 mcg of the organic form of selenium, called selenomethonine, in divided doses.
5. Dr. Bob advised 200-300 mg of sustained release alpha lipoic acid.

Dr. Bob also advised a multivitamin and mineral in any nutritional protocol. Nutrients work in the body in synergy, meaning they work in combination with many other nutrients. A multi provides the co-factors needed by the many processes in the body. Also Dr. Bob advised the brand called Maxilife. He said it was the only multi that he found that covered the doses needed for deficiencies and insufficiencies. He said this is
insurance for covering any problems of deficiency that may be happening in the body, but you still do not know of them.

Dr. Bob advised ion-exchange whey concentrate powder for recovery of trauma. Whey is a high quality protein that can boost immunity as high as 500 per cent. Also, to recover from trauma the body needs great amounts of additional protein to rebuild and repair the body. Whey is a high quality source for protein the body needs. Dr. Bob also liked to combine whey protein for trauma with soy protein powder. He said these two proteins, when combined, balance each other as well as supplying amino acids in powerful amounts. Dr. Bob said to use a ratio of 2 parts whey to 1 part soy. Also, Dr. Bob said there are times you know in advance there will be trauma. For example, a scheduled surgery, potential exposure to elements, difficult conditions such as mountain climbing in the winter, and so on. This is also a time Dr. Bob said to build up antioxidant and nutrient health to help resist the trauma you may face.

Dr. Bob said start building up for expected traumas at least 6 weeks before the expected event. In the case of recuperating, Dr. Bob advised using high intensity protocols for 3 months, then reducing by half the next 3 months, and then perhaps maintaining a daily optimal antioxidant and nutrient supplementation program to help with the stress of life.

In conclusion, you can help resist, repair, and rebuild from trauma by beginning protocols that can increase levels of nutrient health in the body. This is not common information, so it is your responsibility to research this type of information and make the appropriate decisions for yourself. You can search for help in these decisions, but remember doctors do not specialize in nutrient health, so this specialty belongs to nutritional experts,
orthomolecular doctors, environmental doctors, and other nutritional specialties.

Note – In order for these anti-aging ideas to be successful, you must use supplements of the highest quality. Dr. Bob often said, "almost all supplement companies produce poor quality." You can consider the product page of this web site. Almost all the products met Dr. Bob’s approval. Since he passed away we have attempted to keep the same high standards.
