Understanding What To Do About Heart Disease For Diabetics |
Dr. Bob was a MD internal medicine, orthomolecular
doctor, MD psychiatrist, chiropractor, and healer 65 years.
He was a diabetic who lived to 108 years with only 1 side effect 2 years
before he passed away. He treated
diabetics for 50 years.
The number one side effect of diabetes is heart
disease. One person out of every
three suffering heart attacks is a diabetic. It is obvious that diabetics have more problems with the
heart than normal. The idea of this
article is to explain what are the problems diabetics have that lead to heart
disease. Once you understand the
problems you may be able to fix them. If you don't understand the problems then
you most likely will not fix them.
Most diabetics believe that the Holy Grail of health is controlling blood sugar. This is undoubtedly the most important step in controlling diabetes. However, controlling blood sugar does not lead to reversing arteriosclerosis, preventing scarring of arterial walls, and many other problems of heart disease. Therefore, understanding the processes of heart disease will reveal other ideas of aiding diabetics in stopping or decreasing the progressive effects of heart disease
Many scientists and researchers believe the first major
problem leading to heart disease is the arterial walls become scarred, thus
setting the stage for plaque to attach to this scarring, leading to the events
of heart attack. One major culprit
considered by science, in scarring the arterial walls, is the metabolite called
homocysteine. Toxic levels of
homocysteine can damage arterial walls as well as resulting in other damage that
affects diabetics. Toxic levels of homocysteine can also damage capillaries, and
most blood supply to nerves is from capillary blood supply.
If enough capillary damage occurs from homocysteine, blood supply to
nerves can dry up and nerves can die. This
can result in much of the nerve damage that is a side effect of diabetes. Toxic homocystine levels are the result of improper
metabolism (metabolism – processing, handling, and utilization of nutrients)
of protein. Methionine is an amino
acid. Homocystine is a compound
produced from methionine. Homocysteine
is an in-between step, leading to the conversion to other compounds.
When this conversion process is not occurring properly, homocysteine
levels can build up to the point of toxicity. The supplement TMG can reduce
homocysteine levels. TMG results in homocysteine converting into the amino acid
called methionine, which results in reduced homocysteine levels in the
bloodstream. You can ask your
doctor to measure homocysteine levels. If
your homocysteine levels are higher than normal range, you may wish to consider
the supplement TMG, as one strategy to help reduce homocysteine levels.
Reducing homocysteine may afford you added protection from damage to
vascular walls and capillaries.
Another problem of heart disease is the building of
plaque on arterial walls. The main
understanding you need is that a type of cholesterol called LDL, at this time is
considered the major culprit in the buildup of plaque on vascular walls.
Additionally, LDL is not considered a problem until it becomes oxidized
and becomes what is called partially oxidized LDL.
There are several ways LDL can result in being only
partially oxidized.
1.
High levels of triglycerides (blood fats) can result in partially
oxidized LDL, due to excess LDL. The
excess LDL increases the chances of partially oxidized LDL.
2.
Lower levels of HDL can result in more partially oxidized LDL.
HDL is a fat, used to carry away LDL not needed by the body.
The LDL is transported, targeted for destruction elsewhere in the body.
If you do not have enough HDL in relation to LDL, then LDL may become in
excess. There may not be enough HDL to carry away the excess LDL.
The excess LDL increases the chances of partially oxidized LDL.
3.
Blood fats themselves are not properly metabolized because of inefficient
fat metabolism in diabetes. This
may result in partially oxidized LDL.
Dr. Bob advised for high levels of blood fats:
1.
Consider using orthomolecular doses of the vitamin niacin, a vitamin B3.
You can read more about niacin in the article, "Method to Lower
Triglycerides and Cholesterol."
2.
To increase HDL ratios over LDL ratios, supplement 2 tablespoons each day
of Udo's Oil made by Flora. He said
one tablespoon in the A.M. and one in the P.M.
Udo's oil gives you essential fatty acids and provides necessary
co-factors. Udo's oil provides
fatty acids that increase HDL in the body.
Dr. Bob also said you can combine borage and flax oil in equal amounts to
provide essential fatty acid. You
can read other articles on the web site that describe the ideas of essential
fatty acids.
The problems of inefficient fat metabolism in
diabetes, along with inefficient protein and carbohydrate metabolism, are the
major problems of diabetes. To
properly digest fats the insulin must be of high quality. To produce high
quality insulin you need to eat high quality protein and fats, which are
synthesized into insulin. You need
to eat low glycemic carbohydrates to supply efficient energy for the metabolism
of fats and proteins. This is all
described in the article "Insulin Quality Dependent on Quality of Amino
Acid." These ideas all promote
decreasing the problems high blood fat levels create in diabetes.
Once the arterial wall is scarred and plaque has
developed, modern science believes much of the problem that leads to heart
attack is from clotting when plaque breaks.
It is believed that plaque weakens and breaks and the body attempts to
stop the leaking blood by clotting. This
clotting often can be what blocks the artery.
Dr. Bob recommended one baby aspirin every other day.
The aspirin keeps the blood thinned and this aids in preventing clotting
from occurring. Dr. Bob said in
order for aspirin to remain effective use it every other day.
Furthermore, heart disease is a progressive disease
and this means damage accumulates and leads to more damage.
Therefore, Dr. Bob also advised 5-10 grams total each day of vitamin C,
divided into 3 doses per day. Vitamin
C has been proven to reverse arteriosclerosis. Consider using 5-10 grams or more
total of buffered vitamin C powder each day, in divided doses, preferably an
ascorbate C with minerals such as calcium and magnesium: Vitamin C is usually
not needed in large amounts in the body. However,
in a serious condition such as heart disease, which results in free radicals and
other conditions, vitamin C can be used in large amounts as an electron donor
for antioxidants. Antioxidants
neutralize free radicals and do this by donating or losing electrons.
Vitamin C can donate electrons to antioxidants that have already donated
or lost electrons. This allows
these antioxidants to be recycled and neutralize additional free radicals.
Damage in the heart tissue can accumulate over time.
The body can repair this damage by using antioxidants.
A main antioxidant of the heart is vitamin E.
Vitamin E is a fat-soluble vitamin.
It is an antioxidant that can repair heart tissue.
Dr. Bob also advised 1 and 1/2 grams of Acetyl-L-Carnitine
each day, in divided doses. It helps increase energy in the body, by
transporting fats to be burned in cells. Accumulated damage that occurs to the heart decreases
efficiency and function in the heart and leads to decline in energy in heart
tissue. When the heart tissue
becomes weak this can lead to heart problems such as heart attack.
Acetyl-L-Carnitine can increase the energy in the heart tissue. Carnitine
can also help reduce levels of blood fats, by increasing the efficiency of
transporting them to cells, to be burned in the mitochondria.
Lastly, Dr. Bob advised 60 mg of CoQ10 for women and
100 mg for men. CoQ10 increases
blood volume, improves the strength of the heartbeat, and breaks down fat at the
cellular level, with beneficial effects to the heart. This helps to decrease stress on the heart, making the
workload less, and of course this aids the heart.
In conclusion, diabetes often results in heart
problems. There are several stages
in the development of heart disease. Diabetics
should consider methods that can counter these stages.
Furthermore, some supplements can decrease problems that have already
occurred due to heart disease. Diabetics
should consider these ideas as possible ways to reverse vascular damage to the
arteries and heart. Diabetics
should consider preventing, stopping, and reversing the conditions that lead to
heart attack.
Dr. Bob advised the following
I.
To reduce homocysteine levels:
1.
* Supplement optimal doses of B12.
2.
* Supplement optimal doses of folic acid.
3.
* Supplement optimal doses of vitamin B6.
4.
We recommend supplementing optimal doses of TMG.
5.
Consider using an excellent multivitamin and mineral each time you
supplement other nutrients. Dr. Bob
preferred using the brand called Maxilife multivitamin and mineral powder.
* A single B50 or B100 capsule right before meals
will supplement 1, 2, and 3.
II. Dr. Bob advised the following in consideration of possibly preventing, stopping, or reversing conditions of heart disease.
1.
Use a total of 5-10 grams of buffered vitamin C powder daily, in divided
doses.
2.
Use a total of 400-600 IU of dry E or natural E, or use a total of
1200-1600 IU of synthetic E, in divided doses.
3.
Use a balanced essential fatty acid supplement of omega 3 and omega 6
oils that also contain necessary cofactors.
Make sure the oils have been refrigerated the entire time in transport to
the store, and the bottle is dark, such as amber brown to allow very little
sunlight to penetrate. The oil
should be mechanically pressed at low heat, light, and oxygen-free environment.
Dr. Bob recommended Udo’s oil made by Flora.
He also advised you could use equal amounts of flax and borage oils.
Consider a 2-1 ratio of omega 3 to omega 6 oil.
4.
Use inositol hexanicotinate form of niacin, 75-150 mg each day in divided
doses. The article on this web
site, “Overlooked Cure – Anti-death Vitamin,” describes a two decade study
conducted by the modern medical establishment. They used 750 mg of niacin each
day, to produce their remarkable results. You
might consider using their methods as a model for niacin supplementation.
Niacin can cause a flush. The
inositol hexanicotinate is a no-flush form of niacin.
Always consider divided doses when supplementing, to spread out the
effects.
5.
Eat low glycemic foods. There
is a glycemic food index on this web site.
6.
Use 60 mg of CoQ10 for women and 100 mg CoQ10 for men each day.
Use before 3:00 PM so it does not interfere with sleep cycles.
If you already have heart disease consult with your doctor, since often
doses of CoQ10 are much higher for people who already have heart problems.
7.
Use 1 and 1/2 grams of acetyl-L-carnitine each day, in divided doses.
Dr. Bob advised ALC and CoQ10 be taken at the same time
Note In order for these anti-aging ideas to be successful, you must use supplements of the highest quality. Dr. Bob often said, "almost all supplement companies produce poor quality." You can consider the
product page of this web site. Almost all the products met Dr. Bobs approval. Since he passed away we have attempted to keep the same high standards.
